The Burrenbite

The Burrenbite is run by volunteers who ensure the continued success of this great service.

The Burrenbite menu underwent some healthy changes to ensure that foods and drinks sold from the canteen comply with the State Government policy and standards for healthy food and drinks in WA public school canteens. Our menu closely follows a food and drink categorisation system based on “traffic lights”.

  • GREEN – fill the menu predominantly with these choices.
  • AMBER – select carefully and do not let these dominate the menu.
  • RED – OFF the menu and not permitted to be sold in WA school canteens at all.

The changes to our menu now mean that we have a much larger selection of healthy items that are “Green”, and a reduction in the number of “Amber” items for sale. Any “Amber” items are limited in their availability as per the guidelines. We do not have any “Red” items on our menu at all.

This means we have a very healthy and nutritious selection of food, while still offering a wide range of tasty and tempting treats! We also have a much larger selection of vegetarian options to cater for an increasing number of vegetarian students at our school.

We would like to heartily thank the following Southlands businesses for their invaluable support:

  • Willetton Butchers
  • Gilberts
  • Bakers Delight

Where possible please support these businesses in return.

The Burrenbite relies heavily on the goodwill of volunteers to help out. Without their generosity, this valuable service would not be able to function. We extend our thanks and appreciation to all those mums, dads, grandparents and community members who kindly volunteer their time to our school canteen. If you would like to become involved as a canteen volunteer, please contact us at the school on 9266 6200.
